Another week has sped by. It’s was a busy and productive week, however. I sincerely hope the same can be said for you this first month of the new year.
It’s been a long and hard 2020. I don’t know of any common person in my circles who enjoyed that year. 2021…who knows what it holds. Therefore, we must be the ones who make things happen. It begins with “Me.” Everyone say that!
The things that make us happy account for most of productivity. It is the fuel we need to keep us working, cooking, cleaning, tinkering, reading, running to get the kids or grandkids, going to school for some and generally making the most of every day for others.
Curiosity is my favorite pastime. It nudges me to do research on things I never thought I would land on. My mind expands and seems to be more open to learning new things when they are accidentally stumbled upon. I’m intrigued, I guess it could be said, I’m intrigued.
I love to go to antique and old bookstores. You would be surprised by the mother lode of information stored inside those stores! They seem to all have their nooks, crannies, piles and numerous unorganized stacks that lend to make hunting for the just right books all the more exciting. The tightly stuffed shelves are not a deterrent; I’m more determined if anything.
I’ve been known to spend three hours perusing through books, one store even put a chair in a corner just for when I come in. I have purchased eight to ten books at a time and after they’re read, notes taken and the smell enjoyed, I give them back to the store to resell. The enjoyment was in the smell, the nuance of the time period, the intellect and even the speech style of the time period. These are the little idiosyncrasies that mean so much to me and are what make me love old bookstores.
Another reason I love reading in a voracious manner is because it frees up my mind and really feels like I’m emptying all the clutter in my brain from writing and being absorbed in the book I was writing at the time. I actually live inside the written pages until it’s finished and all polished up to my standards. Even the….they aren’t really up to my standards when I reread the book five months later! Ahhh the joys of self-critiquing.
Care to share what you do? I’d love to know someone else has quirks that work for them.
Cheers my friends and happy whatever-your-passion-is, hunting!
Barbee
